Latest news! Having sold our home in Languedoc, we decided to return to Brittany, where we had a home for 10 years previously, and it definitely feels like going home! We were exceptionally lucky to find a stunning little cottage in exactly the right position .. and so now the work begins..

Called now 'Coot Corner' (the reason will be obvious when you arrive) the cottage is on the Rue du Port facing the River Rance and the Marina, in the hamlet of Lyvet, part of the village: La Vicomté sur Rance. And next door is a superb restaurant/bar, L'Effet Mer - who could ask for more? The views are incredible, and the walks along the River and along the towpath to Dinan are a dream ..

The house is not completed, as I said: at the moment the ground floor is not useable, but once we get going it will become our second bedroom and bathroom/utility.

However, because the garden slopes up from the road, the house is accessed from the back door leading to the first floor, which contains the kitchen and dining room/ sitting area. French doors lead on to the small balcony overlooking the River. A corner stairway takes you to the top bedroom and bathroom - very pretty rooms.

So at present the house sleeps two upstairs, and two on the sofa bed in the sitting/dining room. And hopefully by June, there will be the lower bedroom/bathroom . this will be sparkling white with a multicolour chandelier, and embroideries from Morocco, Turkey and India.

The furnishings throughout are excellent: fun, cosy and interesting, with a lot of original art (not just mine!). There are paintings by Cephus Howard, Sue Whitmarsh, Kate Bolton, Peter Jones etc. The house is warm in Winter, and because it faces South, there is always light flooding in. Very soon we will have a woodburner installed - I love to cook lamb chops on an open fire ... and there will be a BBQ /fire pit area outside. .

Stop Press! I have now installed a lovely little caravan in the garden, snuggled behind the hedge, and furnished in shades of blue. Its a perfect hideaway for a couple, providing two single or one double bed. It also has a kitchen with cooker, fridge, kettle, toaster etc, and bathroom with shower, toilet and washbasin.
